Adult Learners
Your College Checklist
- Research schools in your area. Which is the best fit for your needs?
- Select your degree path. To move forward in your current career or pursue a new one, do you need a certificate or an associate, bachelor’s or graduate degree?
- Complete the FAFSA. Step-by-step instructions are provided at FAFSA.gov and help is available at 800.4.FED.AID (toll-free).
- Explore other sources of aid. There may be local and campus-based grants and scholarships available. Check with your employer about costs they may cover. Contact the admission or financial aid office at the school(s) you’re interested in attending to explore any options. Also, research scholarship and grant opportunities at your local library and online at free sites like FastWeb.com, Scholarship-Monkey.com and FinAid.org.
(Many other scholarship search sites are available, and they’re a great tool – but don't forget to use the same caution on scholarship sites that you would with any other site on the Internet, especially if you’re asked to provide personal information.)
- Apply for admission. If you’re 21 years of age or older or on active military duty, you may be admitted to an Oklahoma college or university based on requirements established at the campus level. Check with the institution you want to attend for specific admission requirements. Visit the Admissions and Campus Services section of the State Regents’ Student Center for adult learners for admission office contact information and to learn about special services for adult students.
